네 is read ne; 3 forms from casual to formal.
Casual, polite and formal yes in Korean
Formal and slightly old-fashioned; common in the military, interviews and with elders.
Polite: the normal yes with anyone.
Casual: friends and younger family.
네 is the everyday yes. It also works as a polite 'I am here' when someone calls your name, and as a listening sound (네, 네) while the other person talks. In formal places people also say 예, which means the same.
Which one to use
네 is safe everywhere. 응 is only for people who speak casually to you. 예 sounds a little more formal and is common when answering a superior.
How to pronounce 네
네네 sounds like the "ne" in "net" without the t. 예 sounds like "ye" in "yes". 응 is a short hum, "eung", said with the mouth almost closed.
Sound rule
Read it as ne. Keep the vowel ㅔ short and flat, like the e in 'net', without adding a y sound.

네 when someone is talking
Koreans say 네, 네 while listening, especially on the phone. It does not always mean "I agree"; it means "I hear you, go on".
네? with a rising tone
Said with a rising question tone, 네? means "Pardon?" or "Sorry, what?". It is a polite way to ask someone to repeat.
Yes in text messages
In casual chats Koreans often type ㅇㅇ, the first letters of 응응, for a quick yes, or 넹 and 네네 for a softer, friendly yes. These are for friends; in work messages write 네 or 네, 알겠습니다.
Answering a negative question
Korean 네 agrees with the sentence that was asked. If someone asks 커피 안 마셔요? (you don’t drink coffee?), 네 means "right, I don’t", and 아니요 means "no, I do drink it".
